Tämä on se syy - This is the reason

... ettei minusta ole vähään aikaan kuulunut juurikaan mitään. Muuttokonttimme ajoi pihaan pari päivää sitten ja siitä lähtien meno on ollut sen mukaista. Laatikkoa ympäriinsä, huonekalua hukassa, yksi astia täällä ja toinen siellä. Sen siitä saa, kun muuttofirma unohtaa tulla ajoissa pakkaamaan ja koettavat sitten kahdeksan hengen voimin hoitaa koko muuton vajaassa päivässä (USA:n päässä). Kontti on täynnä eriskummallisen muotoisia ja näköisiä paketteja, joista muutamiin ei ole edes ennätetty sisältöä kirjoittaa.

... that I haven't really been around here for a while. Our container drove to our front yard couple of days ago and from that moment it has been a hassle. Boxes everywhere, furnitures missing, one dish there and one dish here. That is what happens when the moving company forgets to come to your house in time to pack things to the container (in U.S.) and then eight people try to handle all that in one day. Our container was full of oddly shaped and looking boxes, in which they didn't even have time to write what the have inside.

Mutta tyttäremme näkee hyvää kaikessa. Hän sanoi, että tuntuu ihan joululta avata kaikkia noita kontissa piileskelleitä laatikoita. Kolmensadan paketin jälkeen minäkin toivoisin, että tuntuisi joululta... ;-)

But our daughter sees good in everything. She said that it feels like Christmas to open all these boxes hidden inside the container. Okay, after opening around three hundred boxes I wish I felt the same... ;-)

Viimeistä viedään - Last moments

Viimeiset hetket Teksasissa ovat käsillä. Olo on sekava ja vaihtelee odottavasta jännittyneeseen, surulliseen, kaihoisaan ja pakokauhuiseen. Monet ystävät on jo hyvästelty ja monet itkut itketty. Ikävä teitä ihania ihmisiä tulee, ei voi mittään! On se vaan vaikea repiä itseään paikasta, jossa on elänyt viimeiset 10 vuotta. Vaikka lähdemmekin täältä ihan omasta tahdosta, emmekä tilanteen pakosta, niin kovin on vaan olevinaan vaikeaa tämä lähteminen.

Ollaan nyt sitten tytärtä ja hänenkin elämäänsä vaikuttavia muutoksia ajatellen koetettu nauttia näistä viimeisistä hetkistä ja helteistä täysin rinnoin. Pikkuneiti on toisin sanoen saanut pulata vedessä minkä ehtii.

Last moments here in Texas are in our hands. Feelings vary from longing to excited, sad, nostalgic and panicky. We have said goodbye to many friends and cried many tears. We will miss you all lovely people so much, can't help it! It is so hard to tear yourself from a place where you have lived ten years. Even though we are leaving from our own wish, not forced, it is so darn hard to leave.

So thinking about our daughter and all the changes she will soon face, we have now really tried to enjoy the warm (hot) Texas weather and our daughter has been enjoying the water element almost every day.

Tässä nautitaan läheisen tex-mex ravintolan edustalla olevasta pienimuotoisesta vesipuistosta, jossa vesi nousee hauskoina suihkuina maasta. Lapset tykkää.

Here she enjoys a mini water park close to our house, where these little water fountains rise from the ground. Children love this.

Asuinalueemme allasalueillakin on tullut nyt käytyä ahkeraan. Kovin on aamuisin rauhallista. Taas olimme sunnuntai-aamuna ainoa perhe altaalla.

Our community pool has been in a lot of use lately. It is so peaceful early in the morning. Once again we were the only family at the pool on Sunday morning.

Meidän neiti on melkoinen vesipeto. Tässä hypätään isän sylistä veteen.

Our daughter is like dolphin now. Here she is jumping to the water from his father's hands.

Uimista opetellaan jo kovasti.

She is so practicing to swim.

Ja sitten arkisempiin asioihin. Tänään pakkasimme toisen automme matkaan. Lastasimme auton milteipä ääriään myöten täyteen ja sinne lähtevät nyt auton mukana matkaan myös useat keittokirjat, talvivaatetta, kenkää ja tyttären leluja. Auto matkaa laivarahtina Suomeen noin 4-6 viikkoa, joten jonkun aikaa joudun kyllä pärjäilemään ilman ajopeliä.

Minä ja tytär hyppäämme Suomen koneeseen torstai-aamuna. Kello kahdeksalta pitäisi olla kentällä, josta sitten suuntaamme ensin New Yorkiin ja sieltä edelleen Helsinkiin. Eka kertaa menen tätä reittiä yksin tyttären kanssa. Lyhyt vaihto Nykissä hiukan jännittää, mutta toivon mukaan ei tule mutkia matkaan.

Huomenna on siis viimeinen päivä Teksasissa. Arvaan, että kun torstai-aamuna suljen kotimme oven viimeistä kertaa, voi kyynel jos toinenkin nousta silmäkulmaan. Tämä talo oli meille rakas koti neljän vuoden ajan ja tässä kodissa on koettu monta mukavaa hetkeä.

Niin se kai on, että ikävä on aina jonnekin, oli koti sitten lähellä tai kaukana.

And then back to the real life. Today we packed our other car to go. We packed it almost full and there will go our cook books, winter coats, shoes and some of our daughter's toys with it. The car will ship to Finland in 4-6 weeks, so I will be without a car there for awhile.

Me and my daughter will jump into airplane on Thursday morning. At around 8am we are heading to the airport, from where we will first fly to New York and then continue to Helsinki. First time flying this route with my daughter alone. The short plane switching time makes me a little nervous, but I wish that everything will go as planned.

So tomorrow is our last day here in Texas. I guess that when I close the door of our house on Thursday morning for the last time, a tear or maybe more will rise to the corner of my eye. This house has been our home for the past four years and we have experienced so many wonderful things in our house.

I guess I have to say that no matter if you live near of far, you will always long somewhere else.

Muutto edessä - Moving

Huh, nyt se on sitten totisinta totta. Talo menee huomenna myyntiin ja muutto on edessä! Viime vuonna mieheni aloitti jo keskustelut Suomeen paluusta ja nyt siitä on viimein tulossa totta. Keskustelut alkoivat tosiaan jo viime elokuussa, mutta kaikenlaista mutkaa on tullut matkaan ja monta kertaa on asiaa lykätty eteenpäin. Nyt kuitenkin asiat ovat siinä pisteessä, että uskaltauduimme laittamaan talon myyntiin. Olo on intoa täynnä, vaikka pitää kyllä myöntää, että vatsan pohjalla on hiukan perhosiakin. Kotiinpaluu on samalla jännittävää ja pelottavaa. Kymmenen vuotta ulkomailla on tehnyt tehtävänsä ja paluu omaan kotimaahan tuntuu lähes hypyltä tuntemattomaan, niin hullulta kuin se kuulostaakin.

Whow, now it really is going to be true. Our house will be on the market tomorrow and our move back to Finland will come true! My husband started negotiations already last fall, but all sorts of things happened before we actually got to this point, ready to sell our house. We are so excited even though I have to admit I have butterfiles in my stomach. Going back to our home country is at the same time exciting and frightening, considering we have lived abroad for ten years already.

Eilen talossamme kävi pieni hujakka. Kaksi paikallisen staging firman edustajanaista kävivät taloamme läpi ja antoivat vinkkejä ja ihan konkreettisesti muuttivat kotimme ns. myyntikuntoon. Tämä palvelu on maksuton ja kuuluu osana asunnonmyyntiprosessia.

Yesterday our house was under a tornado. Two stager ladies came to our house and gave us some tips how to decorate the house the way it sells faster. This was all free and it's a part of the selling procedure.

Nämä kaksi tuolia ilmestyivät makuuhuoneeseemme olkkarista ja tuo pieni pöytä formaalista olkkarista.

These two chairs got here to our bedroom from the family room and that little table from the formal living area.

Formaalit tilat muuttuivat aika tavalla. Paljon lähti koriste-esineitä pois ja muutamia huonekalujakin veimme varastoon.

Our formals changed the most. A lot of decoration items and furniture went to our garage and storage unit.

Ruokatila muutti ilmettään ja seinille ilmestyivät keväällä kirpparilta ostamani ranskalaistyyliset taulut. Pöydän jatkopala lähti samantien autotalliin, samoin kuin kaksi tuolia. Halusivat tähän kohtaan enemmän tilan tuntua.

The dining area changed quite a bit and we got those French style paintings on the wall. The ladies took out the leaf in our table and put couple of chairs in the garage.

Olohuone ei nyt niin kummoisesti muuttunut. Koriste-esineitä nyt on tosin aika paljon vähempi esillä.

Our family room didn't change too much. There is less decorative items on display.

Keittiö näyttää kaukaa katsottuna ihan samanlaiselta kuin ennenkin.

The kitchen looks like it used to when looking at it from a distance.

Mutta läheltä katsottuna on tavaraa hävinnyt pöytäpinnoilta aika tavalla. Ja kaikki kokkauskirjatkin saivat lähteä varastoon.

But when looking at close a lot of stuff has disappeared from the table tops. And all my cooking books had to go to the storage.

Kylppärimme on ihan aution oloinen. Ja talossamme kaikuu...

Our master bathroom looks so empty. And our house echoes...

Takapihalla ei muutoksia tehty. Kukan laitoin pöydälle ja nostin aurinkovarjon ylös. Niin ja laitoin tuon meidän riippukeinun esille.

We didn't really have to change much in our backyard. I just put that flower on the table and put the shade up. And also brought the hammock closer.

Kotimme ei enää oikein tunnu omalta kodiltamme ja nyt pidämme peukkuja, että talo menisi suht nopeasti kaupaksi. Minun ja tyttären olisi tarkoitus muuttaa Suomeen jo mahdollisesti tämän kuun lopulla tai elokuun alussa. Miehen työt alkavat joustavasti noin syyskuun kieppeillä, riippuen siitä, miten nopeasti talomme menee kaupaksi. Minä täällä jo kärsin arvatenkin uudesta talokuumeesta, ja olen netistä jo surfaillut taloja Varsinais-Suomen alueelta, jonne olemme muuttamassa.

Mutta vielä on monta vaihetta ennen uudelle paikkakunnalle ja uuteen kotiin muuttoa. Ihan ensimmäiseksi olisi kiva saada tämä nykyinen talo pois alta, sillä kahden asuntolainan pyöritys ei juurikaan houkuta. Sitten pitäisi pohtia, mikä kaupunki tai kunta tulee olemaan uusi kotipaikkamme. Ja pelkän muuttokontin saapumisessa Suomeen voi kestää kuukausia. Kunhan nyt saadaan se sitten joskus liikenteeseen. Toinen auto laitetaan varmasti matkaan jo muutaman viikon kuluessa, että on sitten minullakin ajopeli Suomessa.

Our home doesn't really feel like ours anymore and that is one reason we are hoping the house will sell quickly. Me and my daughter are planning to move to Finland as soon as later this month or during the first weeks of August. My husband will follow us in September, depending how fast the house selles. And me, I am already having some house fever symptoms and I have surfed a lot of houses from Finland and the area we are planning to move to.

But there are still many steps before we are moving to the new place. First of all would be nice to get this house sold, since we don't feel like paying two mortgages at the same time. Then we would need to figure out which city or town we are going to move into. And even the moving container and it's shipping may take months. And first we need to get it going. We are probably going to ship our other car to Finland already in couple of weeks, so that I have something to drive with when in Finland.
