Details from our daughters room

Muutama kuva tyttäremme huoneesta. Kovin on tyttömäistä edelleenkin, on vaaleanpunaista ja tyttömäisiä kuoseja. Meillä on neidin kanssa suunnitteilla tapettien vaihto jossain kohtaa - jotain värikästä ja leikkisää ehkä voisi laittaa. Prinsessakatoksesta on puheltu, että josko joutaisi jo kohta pois, mutta pehmolelut, ne ovat näköjään kestosuosikkeja.

Couple of images from our daughters room. Still quite girly room I would say, some pink color and girly patterns. We are planning to change the wallpapers at some point - something playful and colorful perhaps. We have also talked about the canopy like maybe it's time to put it away soon, but all those plush toys, they still seem to be her absolute favorites.

Tyttären huone - Daughter's room

Tyttären huoneen ilme on hivenen muuttunut. Vaaleanpunainen väri on vähenemään päin ja kai se on äidinkin myönnettävä, että lapsi kasvaa ja prinsessakausi taitaa alkaa olemaan jo ohi. Tämä tuli selväksi viimeistään siinä kohtaa, kun tytär tuumaili, että hän haluaisi mustaa väriä huoneeseensa. Aha, tuumasi tähän äiti.

No, pinkin helmalakanan tilalle on jo tilauksessa valkoinen, kun isä suuntaa ensi viikolla nokkansa kohti Yhdysvaltoja. Ja kai sitä voisi jotain mustaakin tähän huoneeseen hankkia tai laittaa. Ainakin koulupöydän pienet metallilaatikot voisi maalata mustalla ja ehkä jotain muutakin mustaa huoneeseen voisi tuoda. Ehkä joku kiva tyyny tms.

The look of our daughter's room has changed a little bit. We see less and less colour pink and I guess it's time for mom to realize that her baby is growing and that the princess period is starting to be over. That totally hit me at that point when she told me that she would like to have some colour black in her room. Aha, said her mom to this.

Well, dad will go to U.S. next week and will bring new white bed skirt to replace the pink one. And I guess we could introduce some black to this room. At least her school metal pins could be painted with blac and maybe some other black could be brought to this space. Perhaps a pillow or something like that.

Kirpparilta löytyi tämä kukallinen päiväpeitto, kukkatyynyt ja uusi katos. Xoxo-tyyny on ostettu Yhdysvalloista. Mutta vanha vaaleanpunainen prinsessakatos, se sai nyt lähteä. Äidillä on kyllä jo nyt sellainen tunne, ettei tämä kukkapeittokaan saa tässä kovin kauaa olla.

I found a new coverlet, flower pillows and a new canopy. Xoxo pilow is bought from U.S. But that pink Disney princess canopy, it had to go. And mom already has a feeling that this flower coverlet will not stay here long.

Lamppu on Amsterdamista, samoin pienempi herätyskello.

The lamp is from Amsterdam, as well as the tiny alarm clock.

Haalean vaaleanpunasta pöytää ja tuolia ajattelin ensin ulkomökkiin, mutta tytär halusi nämä omaan huoneeseensa. Ja oikeastaan aika kivasti käyvätkin tähän nurkkaan.

Pale pink table and chair were supposed to go to our tiny cottage outside, but our daughter wanted these to her room. And actually they look quite nice in this little corner.

Huoneen hyllyille on kerääntynyt kaikenlaista pikkuesinettä. Niistäkin suurin osa on kirppislöytöjä.

Ja kirppislöytöjä voi kohta tehdä meidänkin huushollin ylimääräisistä tavaroista, varasin taas pöydän ja tämä tavaramäärä on kyllä ihan tolkuton! On sisustustuotteita, leluja, kenkää ja vaatetta. Tässä jo pohdin, että laittaisinko osan tänne blogiini tai huutikseen myyntiin teidän lukijoidenkin nähtäväksi, sillä joukossa on myös vähän erikoisempiakin vaatteita ja tuotteita. Noh, mietin asiaa.

Kirppispöytäni on jo ollut tyhjänä kaksi päivää, sillä enpä sitä varatessani tiennyt, että tämä viikko menee pitkälti flunssapotilaan kanssa kotona. Vaan eiköhän tuonne ennätä viedä tavaraa vielä loppuviikostakin. Harmi vaan, ettei pöydän alkamisajankohtaa voinut siirtää.

There are all sorts of small things on her shelving units. Most of them are finds from various flea markets.

And soon someone can make flea markets from our households extra stuff, since I have a table at a local flea market and this pile of things is just enormous! We have decorative items, toiys, shoes and clothing. I started to think that what if I put some of them for sale through my blog or to huuto.net for you readers to see, since there are also some unique clothes and items. Well, I will think about this.

My flea market has been empty for two days already, since how I could've known that this week will go with our little patient at home. But I still have plenty of time to take our stuff there.

Tyttären huone - Daughter's Room

... alkaa näyttämään valmiilta. Ensimmäisenä revimme kaikki tapetit (tummansinistä ja keltaista, huone oli aiemmin pojan käytössä), maalasimme kolme seinää lumenvalkealla ja tapetoimme äitini kanssa huoneen päätyseinän hyvin hillityllä, vaaleasävyisellä K-Raudan Eco malliston Easy Up-tapetilla. Ostin tapetin sen kummempia miettimättä alepäiviltä ja kaksi rullaa riitti hyvin yhteen seinään. Tapetoin elämäni ensimmäistä kertaa ja se sujui ihmeen hyvin ja nopeasti.

...is starting to look ready. First we tore down all the old wallpaper (dark blue and yellow, the room used to be boy's room) and painted three walls with snowy white and put some new wallpaper on the backing wall. The new wallpaper is very calm, light colored and I found it from a local hardware store. This was the first time for me to assemble wallpaper and it was actually quite easy.

Tyttären vanha sänkykin tuli valtameren yli ehjänä perille ja sitä koristaa tyttären vanhat tutut jutut. Prinsessakatos ja USA:ssa pihakirppareilta hankkimani Hello Kitty-tyynyt, koristeet ja päiväpeitto. Niin ja onhan tuo sänky itsekin ostettu käytettynä. Ja hyvin on palvellut.

Our daughter's old bed arrived over the sea unharmed and it is covered with all the old and familiar things. Princess canopy and all those Hello Kitty things I have bought from various garage sales back in U.S. And even the bed itself has been bought used. And it has served our daughter well.
Kuvan etualalla näkyvän kynttelikön asentamisen kanssa meinasi tulla pieniä probleemia. Toimme lampun USA:sta, mutta täältäpä ei löytynytkään noin pienillä kannoilla olevia kynttilälamppuja. Niinpä isäni sai rassata lamppua yhden päivän, ja muutamia osia vaihtamalla hän sai sen onneksi toimimaan. Muuten olisi mennyt nätti lamppu ihan hukkaan.

Tuo prinsessakatos muuten kiehtoo nelijalkaista perheenjäsentämme siinä määrin, että tämän tästä löydämme hänet roikkumasta ohuesta harsokankaasta. Saa nähdä, missä vaiheessa Lumi-kissa tekee selvää noista kaikista harsoista ja pampuloista.

The chandelier in the front of the photo caused us a bit of a headache. We brought the lamp from U.S., but noticed that they don't sell such tiny candle bulbs here in Finland. So my dad had to work one day to fix this lamp. He changed some parts and now it's working. It would have been a shame if we wouldn't have been able to fix it.

That princess canopy seems to attract our new family member. From time to time we see her hanging with her four paws from the thin mesh fabric. We'll see when will be the day that Lumi the Cat will beat all those fabrics and decorations.

Zhu Zhu petsit löysivät myös heti oman majansa. Ja taka-alalla tyttären yksi lemppari-iltalukeminen, Tatun ja Patun Suomi-kirja. Niin ja oikeassa kuvassa näkyy, että moni esine odottaa vielä paikoilleen asennusta (tyttärenkin huoneessa). Kaappien päällä on vielä hyllyjä, tauluja ja muita koristeita, sillä en ole vielä ennättänyt laittaa niitä paikalleen. Yksi seinistäkin kuultaa vielä hiukan läpi, joten saatan vielä joutua käymään läheisessä rautakaupassa ostamassa lisää maalia ja ottaa vielä pensselin käteeni.

Mutta eiköhän tämä tästä, pikkuhiljaa...

Zhu Zhu pets have found their new home. And in the back you can see one of our daughters favorite book. Tatu's and Patu's Finland-book. And in the photo at the right you can see that there are still things waiting to be hanged or assembled. I haven't had time to put the paintings or shelving units on their places yet. It also seems like one of the walls we painted still shines through a little bit, so I guess I still have to go to a local hardware store and buy some more paint.

But it will be okay, little by little...

Joulubloginikin päivittyi taas tänään. Siellä kirjoittelen hiukan enempi muuttotunnelmista ja laitoin sinne myös muutamia kranssi-ideoita. Käykäähän kurkkaamassa!

Hampaasta uuteen tuoliin - From a tooth to a new chair

Viime päivät ovat olleet täynnä kaikenlaista pientä tapahtumaa. Viime viikon tiistaina ja torstaina olen pulannut vesi-aerobicissa ja perjantaina istunut tosi leppoisassa ja mielenkiintoisessa kirjailija-illassa tällä tunnelmallisella takapihalla. Lauantaina kävimme vielä kymmenen naisen voimin katsomassa tämän elokuvan ja leffassa ollessani tyttäreltäkin sitten vihdoin irtosi...

Last days have been full of different activities. Last week I went to water aerobics and also listened to a very relaxing and also interesting writer's evening in this beautiful backyard. On Saturday we went (ten ladies all together) to see this movie and while I was at the movies my daughter finally lost...


... kauan heilunut etuhammas. Voi että sitä riemua!

... the forever wiggling front tooth. Oh boy someone was happy to lose this one!


Ja tyttären huonekin uudistui miltei puolivahingossa kuluneena viikonloppuna. Se siitä seuraa, kun lähtee tyttären kanssa kirppareille. Neidin kanssa ihastuttiin kuvan taka-alalla näkyvään tuoliin ja saman sarjan verhoon ja matkaan lähtivät. Ja sitä kautta muuttui myös koko ilme tyttären huoneessa. Nyt on jo paljon isomman tytön oloinen huone!

And our daughter's room also got a new facelift during this past weekend. This is what happens when you go to garage sales with your daughter. We both fell in love with that hot pink chair and the curtains that came with it, so we just had to buy them. And then of course we changed the whole room while we were at it, which now looks much more like a big girl room than before.

Tuolille istahtivat neidin lemppariponit ja viereen asettui vanha Pottery Barn Kidsistä ostamani yöpöytä, jonka olen maalannut valkoiseksi. Hauskat nuo pienet helmikirjailut tuolin helmassa.

Those two My Little Ponies babies went to sit to this chair immediately and next to it is a Pottery Barn night stand I bought some years back and which I painted white afterwards. Can you see those little details at the hem of this chair. So cute!

Samalta kirpparikierrokselta löytyi kotiin myös tuo hauska Pink-koira. Lähes kaikki kuvan pikkuesineet ovat löytöjä kirppareilta.

From the same garage sale tour we found that cute Pink dog (yes, it is from VS). Most of these little things are finds from garage sales.

Ja sitten leikkimään. Meidän tyttären haaveammatti on tässä iässä kuvan mukaisesti opettaja. Oikeanpuoleisessa kuvassa on meneillään lukuhetki ja oppilaat istuvat niin hiirenhiljaa, että....

And then it's time to play. At this age our daughter wants to be a teacher and in the photo at right she is having a reading session. And all the students were so quiet and sat so still...

Pientä muutosta neidin huoneessa - Just some little changes in my daughter's room

Muutokset neidin huoneessa lähtivät käyntiin ihan simppelisti likaisesta päiväpeitosta.

Tytön kukallinen, tilkku-päiväpeitto oli pari päivää sitten kauhukseni yltä päältä tussissa. Sellaisessa oikein kivasti sottaavassa tummansinisessä, leveää jälkeä jättävässä, tuhraavassa tussissa.

Ja kyllä, neiti kyllä kuuli asiasta ja kävimme pitkän keskustelun siitä, että tussien kanssa tehdään väritys- ja piirustushommia joko koulupöydällä, keittiön pöydällä tai puulattialla, muttei esimerkiksi omassa sängyssä, päiväpeittoon tuhraten...

Huoh! Niin meni päiväpeitto pyykkiin ja onneksi lähtivät tahrat pesussa. Kiitos vesipestävien tussien!!!

Mutta siis, kaivelinpa kaappejani ja löysin tämän jo monta vuotta vanhan päiväpeiton, jota neiti ei ole käyttänyt juuri lainkaan.

Ja ihastuin kovasti tähän mansikkaiseen kuosiin ja tämä peite saakin nyt olla neidin sängyssä pidemmän aikaa, ehkä seuraaviin tussinjälkiin (vaikka asiasta onkin puhuttu vakavaan sävyyn, ei se takaa tussitonta tulevaisuutta päiväpeittojen osalta...).


Ja kevätaurinkokin se jo hiljakseen pilkahtelee enemmän ja enemmän säleverhojen raoista... ;-) On jo aikakin, valoa tarvitaan tähän tupaan!


Seinällä näkyy joku aika sitten tekemäni löytö, My Princess My Joy-kyltti, joka päätyi arvatenkin juuri neidin sängyn yläpuolelle.


Ja asiaan kuuluva tyyny: Little miss drama ;-)


Siinä pehmokaverukset Minni ja Hello Kitty odottavat pääsevänsä leikkimään pikkuneidin kanssa. Kovasti ovat äidinkin mieleisiä pehmuleita nämä kaksi...

Ja hei, asiasta ihan toiseen.

Olokin on jo parempi kuin eilen eikä tuo nenäkään ole enää ihan mahdottoman tukkoinen. Jes, kyllä se tästä! Ehkä aamuinen ulkoilu auttoi tähän olotilaan ;-)

I did some changes in my daughter's room couple of days ago and the reason to do all this was very simple - her dirty comforter.

For some reason she had decided to do some coloring on her bed and had made a big mess with her markers and of course with the darkest possible color, navy blue. And the widest and messiest marker, too.

So, oh yes, we had a little talk about drawing and coloring... And how we really should try and do our coloring and drawing projects at our school table, kitchen table or on the floor.

Well, I am not so sure this is going to be the last time this happens, but still, I hope she learned her lesson.

And for my relief, I got rid of all the stains, since her markers are washable and now the comforter looks as good as new. So thank you so much, whoever you are, you who invented these washable children's markers!!!

But I changed her comforter anyway. To this old one I had bought for her a long time ago, but which she hasn't really used at all. I really like this one too, and I think it will stay in our daughter's room for a little while now.

And then I took some photos of the pillows and plush toys on her bed too. Her best friends Minnie and Hello Kitty are there of course and the very accurate Little miss drama-pillow ;-)

And hey, about me having a cold and sinus thing going on. I am actually feeling a lot better today ;-) Maybe me going for a refreshing walk this morning helped me too, who knows.

Muutama yksityiskohta neitosen huoneesta - Couple of things from my daughter's room

Viikonloppu, jee... Kylmää, ääh! Tuulista, vielä enempi ääh!

Eli tämän viikonlopun suunnitelmat lähteä läheiseen jättiulkotorihärdelliin jäivät kyllä väliin, ei tuonne tuulen puuskaan ja kylymään viitsi kyllä lähteä itseänsä palelluttamaan, kun ei ole kerran pakko...

Joten sisällä kökkimistä pitkälti tiedossa tänään...

Tässä kuiteskin pari kuvaa pikkuneidin huoneesta.



Neidillä noita laukkuja riittää (kuten äidilläkin), joten viritin sitten tuollaisen naulakon hänen huoneeseensa. Idean pihistin ystävättäreltäni, jolla on tyttärien huoneessa vähän samanlainen naulakkosysteemi...



Ja Suomesta tulivat nämä kaikki nallukat ja tuo kiva seinätaulu. Kaikki löytöjä kirppareilta, viime kesältä...

Tuossa kuvassa neiti poseeraa noin puolivuotiaan innolla ;-) Ja nallukoita riittää tässä huushollissa...

Tämä pieni piianpeili kantautui myös Suomesta viime kesänä ja siellä on rasia täynnä aarteita. Lähinnä siis muovikoruja ja sormuksia, mutta ovat kuulkaas tärkeitä kaikki!

Hello! It is Saturday, yes! And cold, blaah! And SO windy, blaah, blaah , blaah! So our plans to go to this giant size traders village today are canceled. We don't want to freeze!

But here are couple of photos I took from our daughter's room. She has a lot of plush bunny rabbits and teddy bears in her room and yes, she (as her mom, too) has a big handbag collection, so I finally decided she needs a place where she can hang them. And now she has her own rack for those...

I also found a little jewelry box with mirrow this summer from a finnish flea market and there are all her jewelry (plastic), which is so important to her! She is a little lady, at least sometimes... ;-)
