Vierashuonekin on saanut tässä alkusyksyn aikana uuden ilmeen. Seinät olivat ennen oliivinvihreät ja pieni huone tuntui vielä pienemmältä tummien seinien vuoksi. Ei taida olla vaikea arvata, minkä värisiksi ne seinät maalattiin? No valkoisiksi tietty, vaikkakaan ei ihan kirkkaanvalkoisiksi, vaan ns. crisp linen-sävyllä, jota käytimme omassa makuuhuoneessammekin viime vuonna ja jota oli vielä yksi maalipötikkä jäljellä, joten sitä sitten seinään sudimme.
Our guest room has changed quite a bit during these last couple of weeks. The walls used to be olive green and this small room felt so small because of the dark colored walls. And I guess it is no suprise that we decided to paint the walls with white. Well, not pure white but a shade called crisp linen, the same hue we used in our master bedroon about a year ago. We noticed that we still had some of that paint left and so it was easy decision to use that same color.
Huoneeseen astuessa tämä teatraalinen naamio tervehtii heti oven viereisellä seinällä.
When you walk into this room this mask will greet you on the wall next to the door.
Koetin nyt hillitä itseäni seinien täyttämisen suhteen ja laitoin sängyn päälle vain yhden ainukaisen taulun (niin ja tuon toisen naamion... öhm...), jossa komeilevat itse James Dean ja Marilyn Monroe. Leffahöperönä tämä taulu osui silmiini keväisessä garage salessa (täkäläinen pihakirppis) ja pitihän se sitten heti itselle ostaa, vaikken ihan ollut edes varma, mihin taulun sijoittaisin. Mutta löysi sitten paikkansa täältä, vierashuoneesta.
Valkoisen sängyn ostin ystävättäreltä, joka muutti perheineen takaisin Suomeen eikä halunnut ottaa sänkyä mukaansa. Sänky on Ikean mallistoa ja tykkään siitä kyllä ihan hirmusti!
I tried to limit myself not to put too many wall hangings in this room and I only put this one larger art work (and yet another mask... öhm..) above the bed. Being a movie freak this picture of James Dean and Marilyn Monroe caught my eye on a local garage sale last spring and I just had to have it, even though I really didn't know where to place it at that moment. But now it found its place, in our guest room.
I bought the daybed from my friend who moved back to Finland with her family. It is from Ikea and I really, really like it!
Sängyn päältä löytyy erinäisiä tyynyjä, jotka kaikki löytöjä paikallisilta garage saleilta, samoin kuin päiväpeittokin.
On top of the bed are several pillows and they are all finds from local garage sales, as well as the bed cover.
Enkelinsiivet matkasivat mukanamme Suomesta. Ne löytyivät Oulun kupeessa olevasta Zeppelin-ostoskeskuksesta.
These cute angel wings traveled with us from Finland. We found these from a little mall near Oulu.
Sängyn vieressä olevasta hyllyköstä löytyy vauvakuva pikkuneidistämme ja kivat enkelikyntteliköt, jotka löysin Tiimarin alehyllystä ja taisivat maksaa 10 centtiä kappale... ;-) Seppele on ostettu jyväskyläläiseltä ulkokirpparilta ja lamppu on hankittu jo vuosia sitten täkäläisestä sisustusliikkeestä, arvatenkin alehyllystä, miehen bongaamana... ;-)
Next to the daybed we have a little shelfing unit and on top of it there is this old photo of our daughter and two lovely angel candle holders that I found from a finnish store, I think they cost something like 10 cents a piece... ;-) That little wreath is from a finnish flea market and the table lamp is from a local design store, from a discount table, found by my husband... ;-)
Huoneesta puuttuu vielä verhotanko, ja sitä on tässä nyt pohdittu jo useamman päivän ajan. Siellä nämä kaksi verhotankoa ovat nyt sitten keskellä lattiaa, mutta kun ei saa päätettyä. Että tummaaako ja kiekuraa, vaiko vaaleampaa ja pyörempää.
This room doesn't have curtain rods yet and we have really tried to decice that which one of these would work for the little window. It is so hard to decide, should we go with the darker shade and a little bit more curvy shape or the lighter color and more round shape.
Tämä taulukin odottaa vielä seinälle asennusta. Eli kesken on vähän vielä hommelit tässä huoneessa. Tämä taulu esittää perhettämme ja paikallinen taiteilija piirteli näitä hauskasti oivallettuja selkäsuuntaan tehtyjä muotokuvia muutama vuosi sitten veloituksetta asukkaiden iloksi. Minusta tämä on kyllä tosi mainio työ ja pääsee heti kunniapaikalle työpöydän päälle.
This artwork is also waiting to get on the wall. So as you see this room is not quite finished yet. This drawing is actually made by a local artist who had this funny idea to do portraits like this, our backs towards her. She was generous enough to make these for free for the enjoyment of the people living in our small town and being present at one little happening that took place couple of years ago.

Mutta nyt taidan mennä etsimään jääkaapista pientä purtavaa ja kohta onkin taas aika lähteä hakemaan pikkuneitiä koulusta. Hyvin on muuten koulu lähtenyt käyntiin ja meidän perheessä on niin innokas koululainen, että hyvä kun tyttöraasu ennättää (tai paremminkin malttaa) aamupalansa syödä, kun on jo ovella kyselemässä reppu selässään, että jokos lähdetään?
But now it's time to get to the kitchen and try to find something decent from the fridge to eat as a light lunch. Then it's almost time to get our daughter from the school. She has had very nice first weeks at Kindergarten and is so eager to go to school that she barely has time (or should I say patience) to finish her breakfast and there she already is hanging on the door knob and asking that could we go already!
Yksi kevään merkki asuinalueellamme ovat ehdottomasti pihakirpparit, eli garage salet. Paikalliset tyhjentävät täällä kotejaan turhasta tavarasta ahkerasti ja helposti, omilta pihoiltaan ja autotalleistaan käsin. Olen itsekin aikeissa pitää oman garage salen lähiviikkoina. Viime viikonloppuna pörräsin itse lähialueen pihakirppareilla ja autoni valtasivat pian vinot pinot lastenvaatteita, kirjoja, leffoja ja erilaisia koriste-esineitä. Nämä ihanuudet löysin pikkuneidille.
Tyttöraasulla ei ole ollut edes herätyskelloa, mutta nyt on ja onkin kovasti mieluinen. Sillä Hello Kitty on edelleen kova sana.
