Pieniä muutoksia - Small changes

Kotona edelleen. Tytär pääsee aikaisintaan ensi viikolla kouluun, joten kotihoito jatkuu. Keuhkokuume ei ole mikään helppo nitistettävä ja lääkärin kommentit saivat muutenkin totiseksi. Keuhkot kun kuulema vaurioituvat aina lopullisesti keuhkokuumeen vahingoittamalta alueelta :-( En siis todellakaan halua riskeerata mitään, jotta tytär nyt varmasti tervehtyy ja välttyy taudin uusimiselta tai jälkitaudeilta.

Ja aika, se kuluu tyttären näkövinkkelistä kovin verkkaiseen. Ajatelkaa nyt, jo toinen viikko äidin kanssa kotona. Hoh hoh. Ja tokihan mieskin on nyt työmatkalla Yhdysvalloissa, joten kaksin totisesti ollaan. Tai no, äitini tuli nyt avukseni Keski-Suomesta, sillä minulla itselläni on edessä pieni elämänmuutos huomisesta alkaen ja tarvitsen hänen apuaan lapsenhoidossa.

Still at home. Our daughter is able to go back to school next week at the earliest, so we will continue home care. Pneumonia is not any easy thing to get rid off and all the doctor's comments made me serious. He told us that lungs get always permanently damaged from the area where the pneumonia hits a person :-( So I really don't want to risk anything, so that our daughter will surely get better and will not get pneumonia again or get any secondary diseases.

And time, it goes by very slow at my daughter's point of view. Think about it, yet another week with mom. Oh my. And of course my husband happens to be on a business trip in U.S. so the two of us it is. Or well, now my mom came here to help me out, since I myself have a tiny change ahead starting tomorrow and I need her help with child care.

Tässä kotona ollessa olen tehnyt pieniä muutoksia olohuoneessa. Vanha häräntalja tuli nyt olohuoneeseen ja miehen työhuoneesta kannoin rottinkituolin tilalle tämän vanhan USA:sta pihakirpparilta ostamani tuolin.

When spending my days here at home I have made some small changes in our family room. This old bull block came to our family room and I also brought this old arm chair that I have bought from a yard sale in U.S. from my husbands office.

Ja se oikeasti on pyhää... ;-) Suklaa nimittäin...

And it truly is holy... ;-) Chocolate I mean...


Pieni ilonaihe voi olla vaikka 4 euron kukkapöytä. Ja niin iloisen punainenkin vielä. Kirpparit on ykkösiä omalla shoppailulistallani!

A small cause for joy can be a flower table. And so happy red colour also. Flea markets are number ones on my personal shopping list!

Iltatoriltakin voi löytyä vaikka kaunis vanha jakkara. Tässä vaan oli kaikki kohdallaan, oikeat värit, kuviot ja vanhan ajan tunnelmaa.

Mukavaa viikon jatkoa kaikille ja oikein mukavaa syyskuuta! Huomennahan se jo on... Minä jään täällä funtsailemaan, josko avaisin sen pikkukirpparin tänne blogiini ;-)

And from evening markets you can find for example an old pretty stool. This one had it all, the right colours, patterns and that old time good vibe.

Hiljaiselo jatkuu - Quiet life continues

Ihan ensiksi kiitos kaikille edelliseen postaukseen kommentoineille, koetan saada vastailtua kommentteihinne pikimmiten. Vaikka minulla on tunne, että hiljaiselo jatkuu vielä jonkun aikaa.

First of all I want to thank you all for your comments in my last posting. I will try and answer them asap. Even though I feel we will still continue quiet life here for some time.

Hiljaiselon ohella myös kotikoulumme jatkuu. Tyttäremme on edelleen kipeänä ja tänään saimme tietää, että hänellä on keuhkokuume. Hän sai nyt uudet antibiootit, joiden toivomme tepsivän. Yskä ja pitkittynyt kuumeilu sai meidät epäilemään, että nyt on jotain vialla. Onneksi menimme tänään uudestaan lääkäriin, vaikka se tiesikin huutoa ja hampaiden kiristelyä, sillä verikokeitakin sitten otettiin ja monta... :-(

Onko kenelläkään kokemusta lapsen keuhkokuumeesta? Mitä lääkistystä lapsi sai (meillä ensin Kefexin 100mg, nyt Amorion 100mg), miten kauan meni, että lapsen tila ja tulehdusarvot lähtivät laskuun ja joutuiko lapsi sairaalahoitoon? Meillä on nyt aikaa sunnuntaihin, jolloin viimeistään katsotaan tilannetta uudestaan ja arvioidaan, tarvitseeko lapsi sairaalahoitoa. Ja täällä äiti taas sydän syrjällään.

With quiet home life continuing, also home schooling continues. Our daughter is still sick and today we learned that she has pneumonia. She is now on new antibiotics, that we hope will work. Her cough and prolonged fever made us suspect that there is something wrong. I am so glad we went to see a doctor again, even though this whole day has been about screaming and "teeth tightening" as we say here in Finland, since there were also quite many blood tests today... :-(

Does anyone have experience of a child with pneumonia? What kind of medicine your child got (our daughter first had Kefexin 100mg, now she is on Amorion 100mg) How long it took that child's condition and inflammation numbers got better and did you child get hospitalized? We have time till Sunday to see how her condition gets and then we will see a doctor again and evaluate if she needs hospital care. And mom here is worried sick.

Ulospäin lapsosemme näyttää ihan hyvinvoivalta ja on oma aktiivinen itsensä, vaikkakin kovin kalpea.

From the outside our child looks she is doing fine and is her active self, even though so very pale.

Ja läksyt tehdään kovalla innolla, vaikka nenä tursaa ja yskä on aivan hirveä. Pitäkää hei peukkuja, että nämä uudet lääkkeet jo pian tepsivät eikä kotikoulun tarvitse enää jatkua (eikä etenkään sairaalareissua olisi odotettavissa). Tämä lapsi haluaa jo takaisin kouluun ja kavereiden pariin.

And she does her home work with lots of enthusiasm, even when her nose is covered with mucus and her cough sounds horrible. Please keep your thumbs up that these new antibiotics will work soon and she doesn't have to continue home schooling (and especially not have to expect our child to be hospitalized). This child wants to go back to school and see her friends.

Tyttären huone - Daughter's room

Tyttären huoneen ilme on hivenen muuttunut. Vaaleanpunainen väri on vähenemään päin ja kai se on äidinkin myönnettävä, että lapsi kasvaa ja prinsessakausi taitaa alkaa olemaan jo ohi. Tämä tuli selväksi viimeistään siinä kohtaa, kun tytär tuumaili, että hän haluaisi mustaa väriä huoneeseensa. Aha, tuumasi tähän äiti.

No, pinkin helmalakanan tilalle on jo tilauksessa valkoinen, kun isä suuntaa ensi viikolla nokkansa kohti Yhdysvaltoja. Ja kai sitä voisi jotain mustaakin tähän huoneeseen hankkia tai laittaa. Ainakin koulupöydän pienet metallilaatikot voisi maalata mustalla ja ehkä jotain muutakin mustaa huoneeseen voisi tuoda. Ehkä joku kiva tyyny tms.

The look of our daughter's room has changed a little bit. We see less and less colour pink and I guess it's time for mom to realize that her baby is growing and that the princess period is starting to be over. That totally hit me at that point when she told me that she would like to have some colour black in her room. Aha, said her mom to this.

Well, dad will go to U.S. next week and will bring new white bed skirt to replace the pink one. And I guess we could introduce some black to this room. At least her school metal pins could be painted with blac and maybe some other black could be brought to this space. Perhaps a pillow or something like that.

Kirpparilta löytyi tämä kukallinen päiväpeitto, kukkatyynyt ja uusi katos. Xoxo-tyyny on ostettu Yhdysvalloista. Mutta vanha vaaleanpunainen prinsessakatos, se sai nyt lähteä. Äidillä on kyllä jo nyt sellainen tunne, ettei tämä kukkapeittokaan saa tässä kovin kauaa olla.

I found a new coverlet, flower pillows and a new canopy. Xoxo pilow is bought from U.S. But that pink Disney princess canopy, it had to go. And mom already has a feeling that this flower coverlet will not stay here long.

Lamppu on Amsterdamista, samoin pienempi herätyskello.

The lamp is from Amsterdam, as well as the tiny alarm clock.

Haalean vaaleanpunasta pöytää ja tuolia ajattelin ensin ulkomökkiin, mutta tytär halusi nämä omaan huoneeseensa. Ja oikeastaan aika kivasti käyvätkin tähän nurkkaan.

Pale pink table and chair were supposed to go to our tiny cottage outside, but our daughter wanted these to her room. And actually they look quite nice in this little corner.

Huoneen hyllyille on kerääntynyt kaikenlaista pikkuesinettä. Niistäkin suurin osa on kirppislöytöjä.

Ja kirppislöytöjä voi kohta tehdä meidänkin huushollin ylimääräisistä tavaroista, varasin taas pöydän ja tämä tavaramäärä on kyllä ihan tolkuton! On sisustustuotteita, leluja, kenkää ja vaatetta. Tässä jo pohdin, että laittaisinko osan tänne blogiini tai huutikseen myyntiin teidän lukijoidenkin nähtäväksi, sillä joukossa on myös vähän erikoisempiakin vaatteita ja tuotteita. Noh, mietin asiaa.

Kirppispöytäni on jo ollut tyhjänä kaksi päivää, sillä enpä sitä varatessani tiennyt, että tämä viikko menee pitkälti flunssapotilaan kanssa kotona. Vaan eiköhän tuonne ennätä viedä tavaraa vielä loppuviikostakin. Harmi vaan, ettei pöydän alkamisajankohtaa voinut siirtää.

There are all sorts of small things on her shelving units. Most of them are finds from various flea markets.

And soon someone can make flea markets from our households extra stuff, since I have a table at a local flea market and this pile of things is just enormous! We have decorative items, toiys, shoes and clothing. I started to think that what if I put some of them for sale through my blog or to huuto.net for you readers to see, since there are also some unique clothes and items. Well, I will think about this.

My flea market has been empty for two days already, since how I could've known that this week will go with our little patient at home. But I still have plenty of time to take our stuff there.

Nyt se on todistettu - Now it has been proved

...että mustikkatahroistakin pääsee eroon, jos vaan toimii ripeästi. Laitoin välipalaksi pikkuneidille mustikoita ja jogurttia ja kappas kuinka kävi, pian huomasin, että mustikkaa oli tipahdellut vastikään kirpparilta löytämälleni Marimekon Siirtolapuutarha-kankaalle, jota mallailin keittiön pöydälle. Toisinsanoen on vielä keskeneräinen tapaus, mutta piti jo päästä kokeilemaan, miten keittiöön mallaa ja näin siinä sitten kävi...

No mutta, äkkiä kangas pois pöydältä, surffaamaan nettiin ja eräiltä suomalaisilta siivous-infosivuilta bongasin ohjeen, jossa kerrottiin, että mustikkatahraan auttaa kuuma vesi ja ihan tavallinen tiskiaine. Ja totta, se tehosi. Laitoin kankaan vielä pyykinpesukoneeseen 60 asteen pesuun ja simsalabim, tahrat ovat nyt poissa. Phiuh!

...that you can get rid off blueberry stains, if you act fast. I made some blueberry yogurt snack for our daughter and soon noticed that there were some blueberry stains on a Marimekko fabric, that I just recently bought from a flea market and wanted to try out and see how it looked like on our kitchen table. So it's a project still on progress, but I just had to try how it looked like in our kitchen and then what happened...

Immediately I took the fabric away from the table, surfed in the interned and from one finnish cleaning webpages I discovered that you use hot water and common dishwashing liquid to remove the stain. And that is true, it worked. After that I put the fabric to washer and used 60 degree program and simsalabim, all the stains are gone. Phiuh!

Hiljaista - Quiet

Meillä on ollut tytön kanssa tänään kotipäivä ja niin on huomennakin. Neiti on ollut kovin flunssainen jo viikonlopusta alkaen ja tänään kuumekin jo kipusi lähemmäs 39 astetta. Päätimme lähteä käymään lääkärissa ja hyvä niin, sillä tulehdustahan siellä oli, joten antibioottikuurin saimme matkaamme.

Laitoin tässä juuri ruokaa ja huutelin tyttöä syömään. Vaan kovin oli olohuoneen puolella hiljaista, ja pian hoksasin, että neiti oli nukahtanut kesken piirustelun.

Tänään en jaksa siivota, vaikka leluja on kaikkialla ja likaiset tiskitkin lojuvat altaassa. Nyt vaan ollaan hiljaa ja lepäillään.

I've been at home with our daughter today and will do so tomorrow as well. Our little missy has had some cold symptoms from last weekend and today her temperature started to climb up, rising close to 39 degrees celsius. So we decided to go and see a doctor today and I think that was a good decision, since she has an infection, so she is now on antibiotics.

I just made some dinner and asked her to come to dinner. But it was awfully quiet in the family room and I soon figured she had fallen asleep while drawing.

Today I don't feel like cleaning even though there are toys everywhere and dishes are in the sink. Now we just take it easy and rest.

Omppujen aika - Apple time

Meidän pihassa kasvaa yksi ainoa omenapuu. Mutta voi mahdoton, millaisen määrän omenoita se meille antaa. Olemme keränneet omppuja jo vaikka millaiset määrät, vaan vielä on puu pullollaan noita ihania, pullukoita syysomenoita. Sellaisia kivan kirpakoita omppusia.

We have only on apple tree in our garden. But oh my how many apples it gives us. We have already picked lots of them, but there is so much more. This tree is full of those red, fall apples. They are those nice and crisp ones.


Tein eilen amerikkalaistyylistä vai onko tämä nyt sitten enempi englantilaistyylistä omppupaistosta. Ohje on netistä ja laitan sen nyt tällä kertaa vain englanniksi. Omppupalat kannattaa latoa uunivuokaan alimmaiseksi ja sitten nuo muut aineet sekoittaa keskenään ja kaataa omppujen päälle. Itse annoin paistoksen olla uunissa vähän pidempään, jotta pinta ruskistui enempi ja omput pehmenivät oikein kunnolla. Tosi helppoa hyvää, joka maistuu oikein erityisen maittavalta vaniljajätskin ja kanelin kanssa.

I made some american style or is this more english style apple crumble yesterday. The recipe is from the internet and I post it now only in english. You may want to put the apple pieces on the bottom of the oven dish and then mix the other ingredients and add the mixture on top of the apples. I let the crumble to stay in the oven for a bit longer, so it got more color and softened the apples. So easy and tastes especially yummy with vanilla ice cream and cinnamon powder.

Kurkistus vierasmökkiin - Peek into our guest cottage

Pientä taukoa on taas ollut blogipäivitysten suhteen. Harmittaa, sillä en ole oikein edes ennättänyt vierailla teidän muiden ihanissa blogeissa. Mutta hiljaisuudelle on ollut syynsä. Olemme olleet lomalla, tytär on aloittanut ekan kouluvuoden, olemme touhuilleet kovasti vierasmökin parissa ja tässä on nyt muutenkin tulossa vähän muutosta oman elämäni suhteen, josta kerron lisää lähiaikoina.

I have had some break with blogging lately. And I feel bad, since I haven't really had time to visit your wonderful blogs. But I have some pretty good reasons, since we have been on a summer break, our daughter has started her first school year, we've been busy working with our guest cottage lately and I will have some changes in my life in the near future, but I will more about that soon.

Vierasmökkimme alkaa olemaan valmis. Ulkoapäin maalaus on vielä kesken, mutta sisätilat on jo maalattu ja mökki alkaa näyttämään valmiilta. Maalasimme seinät valkoisella ja lattian vaalean harmaalla. Ja tuo lattia, se narisee ihanasti, tulee ihan oma lapsuus ja mummila mieleen. Keinutuolin löysin tänään Lähetyskirpparilta, se maksoi 30 euroa, en tiedä, mitä te muut ajattelette tuosta hinnasta, mutta minusta hinta oli aika kohtuullinen verrattuna muihin saman ikäluokan keinutuoleihin, joita olen katsellut.

Our guest cottage is starting to look ready. From the outside the painting is not completely finished, but from the inside the cottage is pretty much done. Walls are painted with white and floor with light gray paint. And that floor it creaks like at my grandma's and brings back some childhood memories. I found this rocking chair today from a local flea market, it cost 30 euros, I don't know if that sounds reasonable or not, but I feel it was quite cheap, compared to the other ones I have checked.

Vierasmökin sisustus koostuu pääosin kirppislöydöistä ja perityistä huonekaluista. Vanha tuoli on joskus ollut mummilassa keittiön tuolina ja odotamme vielä mökkiin vanhaa sivustavedettävää sänkyä vanhemmiltani. Sen enempää ei tähän pieneen mökkiin kalusteita tarvitakaan.

Our guest cottage is furnisned mostly with flea market finds and inherited furniture. That old chair has been at my grandma's house as a kitchen chair and we are still waiting for an old bed to arrive from my parents. And that will be all the furniture we need in this cottage.

Kauniit tyynyt ovat uudet, mutta minusta kuiteskin käyvät kivasti mökin vanhahtavaan tyyliin nekin. Nyt kun vielä saamme mökin maalattua lopulliseen asuunsa myös ulkoa, laitan vielä muutamia lisäkuvia tulemaan.

These pretty pillows are new, but I feel they look nice with the old style also. Now that we will get the cottage completely painted from the outside as well, I will post some more photos.

Ja kaikki se ruoka! - And all that food!

Ja pöytäliinan helma heilahtaa... ;-) Kreetan tavernoissa istuimme ahkeraan. Majoituimme loman ajan All inclusive-hotellissa, mutta valitsimme buffet-aamiaisvaihtoehdon sillä ajatuksella, että kokeilisimme joka ilta jotain uutta paikallista tavernaa. Ja siinä ajatuksessa pysyimme ;-)

We sat inside the local Creten taverns quite often. We stayed in All inclusive hotel, but chose the buffet breakfast option having in mind that we would try different taverns every night. And that we did ;-)

Sieniä kermakastikkeessa. Oikein maittavaa.

Mushrooms in creme sauce. Very tasty.

Paistettua fetaa ja talon valkoviiniä. Viini oli Kreetalla muuten tosi halpaa, talon viini maksoi yleisesti reilusti alle 10 euroa pullo/karahvi.

Grilled feta and house white wine. Wine was very cheap in Crete, house wine was usually way under 10 euros a bottle/caraf.

Ja ties monellako eri tapaa Kreikassa valmistetaan grillattua fetaa. Tämä oli meidän lempparia, grillattua fetaa höystetty ihanalla tomaattikastikkeella. Nam!

And who knows on how many ways they do grilled feta in Greece. This was our favorite, made with so yummy tomato sauce. Yum!

Viininlehtiin käärityt alkupalat, eli dolmadesit olivat myös lemppareitamme. Näitä sain jo maistaa toissa talvena useaan otteeseen Dallasissa, jossa turkkilainen ystävättäreni teki näitä herkkuja.

Appetizers wrapped in wine leaves, called dolmades were also one of our favorites. I was able to try these out couple of years ago when living in Dallas, when my turkish friend made these yummy things.

Kissoja ja mielenkiintoisia yksityiskohtia Cats and interesting details

Kreikkalaiseen katukuvaan kuuluvat niin usein kauniit ikkunat värikkäine ikkunaluukkuineen sekä kaikki lukuisat kissaraasut. Tämä pieni kissanpentu ihastutti meitä monena iltana hotellimme lähistöllä olevan nahkaliikkeen edustalla. Arvelimme, että nahkaliikkeen omistama pariskunta syötti kissapoloista, sillä se oli selvästi asettunut heidän liikkeensä edustalle (ja välillä sisätiloihinkin) asustamaan.

All the pretty windows and colorful panels and those poor little cats belong to the greek street view. This little kitten made us sigh on many evenings in front of a tiny leather store close to our hotel. We figured that the owners feed this little creature, since it seemed to stay at the same spot, outside (and occasionaly inside) the store every evening.

Välimeren kaupungit ovat täynnä niin mielenkiintoisia, kauniita yksityiskohtia, joita voisin jäädä ihailemaan kameroineni vaikka kuinka pitkäksi aikaa.

Mediterranean cities are full of so interesting and beautiful details which I could easily stay and admire for a long long time with my camera.

Kreikan matkalta - From the trip to Greece

Palasimme sunnuntaina Kreikan matkalta. Olimme viikon Kreetan saarella, Hanian kaupungissa. Hanian kaupungissa minua kiehtoivat basaarit, kapeat kujat ja leppoisa Välimeren tunnelma.
