Juhannusaatto - Midsummer eve

Vietimme juhannusaaton iltaa mökillä Keski-Suomessa.

We celebrated the Midsummer eve at our lake house in Central Finland.


Sauna lämpeni jo alkuillasta ja isäni tekemät koivuvihtat odottivat valmiina paukuttamaan selkää.

Sauna was heated with wood early in the evening and birch bouquets made by my father were ready and waiting to bang our backs.


Illalla sytytimme kokon ja flunssapotilaammekin uskaltautui hiukan pihamaalle kokkoa ihmettelemään. Rauhallinen oli juhannusaattomme. Tänään vanhempani viettävät 40-vuotishääpäiväänsä ja ovat kutsuneet vieraiksi lähisukulaisia ja ystäviä. Tiedossa on pienet juhlat, joita täällä juuri parhaillamme valmistelemme. Mukavaa juhannusviikonlopun jatkoa kaikille.

Later in the evening we had a bonfire and our flu patient was also brave enough to come outside and wonder the fire. Our Midsummer eve was very calm. Today my parents celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary and have invited all the closest relatives to celebrate it. We will have a small party and we are just about finishing all the praparations for the party. Have a nice rest of this midsummer weekend you all.

Oman maan salaattia - Salad from our own garden

Tein tänä aamuna nopeasti ruokatunniksi salaatin. Sain jo hakea itse salaatit ihka omasta kasvimaasta. Meillä kasvaa kahta eri lajia, nimiä en muista, mutta tuollaista vaaleampaa lehtimäistä ja toista rapsakampaa. Mutta mikä kruunasi koko salaatin, oli kyllä ehdottomasti yrttipenkkimme tuore korianteri. Pieniltähän nuo vielä voivat näyttää, mutta makua niissä kyllä on jo tosi kivasti. Nam!

Hauskaa juhannusta teille kaikille täällä Suomessa! Me lähdemme nyt suhaamaan kohti kesämökkiä ja juhlistamaan vanhempieni 40-vuotishääpäivää ;-)

I made a fast salad for my lunch break. This morning I was able to pick the salad itself from our own garden. Don't know the names, but other one we gro is light green salad and other is more crispy salad. But what made the the salad perfect was fresh cilantro from our herb garden. They may still look tiny, but they're so tasty already. Yum!

Herkkuja ja vaatteita - Goodies and clothes

Jaa-a, olen kotona yksin. Mies on työmatkalla pohjoisessa ja tytär isovanhemmilla Keski-Suomessa koko viikon. Se meni sitten väkisinkin työpäivän jälkeen herkutteluksi, vai pitäisikö sanoa lohtusyömiseksi. Viikonloppuna toimme Helsingin tuliaisina Stockmannilta ihania suklaatryffeleitä, joista nuo etummaiset mango-tryffelit olivat mielestäni ehdottomasti parhaita. Ja eilen tein vielä mustikka-tyrninmarjarahkaa, jota herkuttelin tänään ihan hyvällä omallatunnolla, Toivekoti & Puutarha-lehteä samalla silmäillen. Joitain ihania koteja taas noilla lehden sivuilla. Ja taas nuo Eamesin tuolit, tällä kertaa vaaleansinisinä. Aah!

Oh well, home alone. Hubby is on a business trip up to north and our daughter is at her grandparents the whole week. So it got into after long day at work, or should I say it was all about comfort food. During the weekend we bought some goodies from Stockmann while in Helsinki. I just love those chocolate tryffels, and those mango ones in the front were my favoritees. Yesterday I also made some blueberry quark and had a feast with good conscience, eyeing the latest Toivekoti & Puutarha magazine at the same time. Some pretty homes there again. And once again those Eames chairs, this time in baby blue. Aah!

Uskaltaudun kiusaamaan teitä vielä tällaisella vaatekuvaparilla. Minä en sitten ole mikään mallivartalon omaava rouva, joten varokaa. Keski-ikäiseksikin voin itseäni pian kutsua (herranjumala sentään!), vaan siitä huolimatta on kiva väliin laittaa vähän nuorekkaampaa vaatetta päälle. Vai ovatkohan nämä nyt siis niin nuorekkaita, no mutta kuiteskin. Näissä vaatteissa olin perjantaina Bon Jovin keikalla. Hiukan meinasi varpaat kastua illan hämyssä, kun sitä vettä sitten alkoi kunnolla satamaan. Mutta onneksi olimme varustautuneet sadetakeilla (kiitos kaveripariskunnan) ja pysyimme kuitenkin suht koht suojassa sateelta.

Ei sillä, että sade olisi menoa haitannut. Pikemminkin päinvastoin, tunnelma oli katossa ja illan aikana kuulimme monta vanhaa kasaribiisiäkin, mikä oli kyllä aika koetus meikäläisen onnettomille äänihuulille. Mutta kivaa oli! Vaatteista vielä sen verran, että kuvan nahkatakki on USA:sta ja yksi parhaista ostoksista ikuna. Alla olevat paidat ja huivi ovat kirppislöytöjä ja farkkucaprit USA:sta.

I dare to bug you with these clothing photos. I am not a model figured lady, so be warned. I can soon call myself middle-aged (my God!), but it's still nice to wear a bit more youthful clothes at times. Or are these even youthful I don't know for sure. But anyways, I wore these clothes to the Bon Jovi concert on Friday. Almost got my toes soaked when it started raining at the end of the gig. But luckily we had those plastic rain coats (thanks to our friends) and stayed quite safe from the rain.

Doesn't mean that the rain would have slowed us down. Quite on the contrary, the atmosphere reached the ceiling and we heard lots of old 80s songs, which was quite a challence to my poor vocal cords. But, we had a lot of fun! Still something about those clothes on the photos, the leather jacket in the photo is from U.S. and one of my best buys ever. The tunic and top underneath are finds from flea market as well as that colorful scarf. Capris are from the U.S.

Konserttiin - To the concert

Muistatteko tämän kikkarapään miehen "komistuksen" 80-luvulta? No, minä ainakin muistan. Jon Bongiovi oli yksi lemppareistani bändistä Bon Jovi kaaauaan aikaa sitten omassa nuoruudessani. Silloin pitkät hiukset olivat pojilla/miehen aluilla muotia. Olen muuten ollut huomaavinani, että pitkä tukka on tainnut tulla taas pojilla muotiin. Vai kuvittelenko vain?

Do you still remember this curly haired handsome man from the 80s? Well I do. Jon Bongiovi being one of my teenage favorites from a famous band Bon Jovi, loooong time ago. Back at those times guys used to have long hair. I've noticed that this trend has come back for boys and longer hair seems to be cool again. Or do I just imagine so?

Huomenna menemme ystäviemme kanssa katsomaan Bon Jovia. Tai pitäisikö sanoa enemmänkin fiilistelemään, sillä en enää niin hirmusti kuuntele bändin uusia julkaisuja, vaan enemmänkin niitä vanhoja, 80-90 luvun biisejä. Arvaan, että huomenna voi tulla kummasti nuoruus mieleen ;-)

Tomorrow we will go to Bon Jovi concert with our friends. Or should I say we are going to go to feel the vibes from the 80s, since at least I myself don't so much listen to their new albums, but those older ones from the 80s and 90s. I bet that tomorrow I will get flashbacks from our youth ;-)

Oma suosikkini silloin joskus oli tämä levy. Muistan vieläkin monia levyn kappaleista ulkoa, kuten Livin' on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name ja Wanted Dead or Alive. Oi, toivottavasti noita vanhoja biisejä kuullaan myös huomenna.

My own favorite back then at the 80s was this album. I still remember some of the lyrics of this record, like Livin' on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name and Wanted Dead or Alive. Oh, I hope to hear those old songs tomorrow.

Kotona - At home

Toissailtana kuvasin innoissani kauniita kukkasia, joita keräsin iltalenkillä ollessani. Ojien pientareita koristivat valkoiset, vaaleanpunaiset ja lilat lupiinit sekä ihanaiset päivänkakkarat. Viikonloppuna kauhistelin torilla, kuinka pienestä lupiinikimpusta pyydettiin 2,50 euroa. Niitä kun kuiteskin kasvaa ympäriinsä.

Just the other night I was taking photos of all the wild flowers I collected while on my evening walk two days ago. There were white, pink and lilac lupines everywhere and of course those lovely daisies. At the farmers market I was shocked to find out that a tiny bouquet of lupines cost 2,50 euros, while they basically grow everywhere.
Tänään kuvaani osui sohvalla makoileva ja lastenohjelmia katseleva tyttäremme, jolla alkoi eilen illalla ihan odottamatta mahdottoman voimakas oksennustauti. En kehtaa mennä yksityiskohtiin sen tarkemmin, mutta voin kertoa, että illalla pyykkäsin vaatteita, mattoja ja sohvia vielä iltamyöhään. Yöllä ei oikein meinannut unikaan tulla, kun tyttö oli niin kuumissaan ja sairaan oloinen.

Joka kerta kun lapsi sairastaa, hypähdän varpailleni. Nyt on onneksi ollut parempi päivä ja ruokakin pysyy sisällä. Tosin mustikka ja appelsiinimehulinjalla on tähän saakka menty.

Today our daughter is on the photos while watching children's programs and taking it is easy on our couch. She was vomiting all evening yesterday. I don't want to go to details, but I can tell you that I was doing laundry all evening, washing clothes, rugs and couches. During the night I was not able to sleep well when she was all sweaty and hot and looked so ill.

Everytime our child gets sick I jump on my toes and get cautious. Now I've been so happy to notice that today all the food seems to stay inside, even though the menu has been quite simple so far, orange juice and blueberries.

Eilen vielä paistoi - Yesterday it was still shining

Eilen mittari paahtoi vielä kolmessakymmenessä asteessa. Ei siinä auttanut kuin pakata uikkarit kassiin ja kaasutella kohti uimarantaa. Pienet lakatut varpaat kipristelivät polttavassa hiekassa ja katse tavoitteli tämän tästä vilvoittavaa vettä.

Yesterday the thermometer climbed once more up to thirty celcius. Couldn't but pack our bags with swimsuits and head to closest lake. Those little painted toes curled up from the hot sand and her eyes zoomed to the cooling water.
Isäkin tuli kotiin työmatkalta ja pikkuneiti oli koko päivän isässään kiinni kuin pieni takiainen. Huomenna hän taas lähtee ja jättää meidät, pysyen sentään kotimaan rajojen sisäpuolella, vaikkemme häntä näekään taas moneen päivään.

Daddy came back home yesterday and our daughter was like a little barnacle stuck on him. Tomorrow he will leave us again, yet staying inside our country borders, even though we will not see him in days.

Teimme isän kotiinpaluun kunniaksi eilisaamuna mansikkapiirakan. Ei kyllä olleskaan tehnyt mieli laittaa uunia päälle ja tehdä kakkupohjaa uunissa. Niinpä nappasimme lauantaina lähikaupasta piirakkapohjan ja torilta tuoreet kotimaiset mansikat. Oi että, oli neidilläkin suu muikeana, kun sai popsia suihinsa makeita mansikoita.

Tänään pihalla näyttääkin jo aika harmaalta ja sateiselta. Mutta hyvää se vaan tekee kasveille, näyttää kasvimaallakin jo vihertävän kovasti. Nyt ei tunnu niin pahalta istua sisällä toimistossakaan, varsinkin, kun kotona odottaa vielä yksi pala tuota mansikkaista herkkua. Mukavaa viikon alkua kaikille!

We made a strawberry pie yesterday, since daddy came back home. I didn't want to put the oven on and so we bought a ready made pie crust from a grocery store on Saturday and bought some fresh finnish strawberries from the farmer's market. Oh my, how our little one was all smiles, when she ate those yummy strawberries.

Today it looks grey and rainy outside. But it's all good for all the plants, our garden looks so green already. And now it doesn't feel so bad to sit inside the office, especially when thinking that I still have one piece of that strawberry pie left at home. Have a nice week you all!

Kesäkuumaa - Summer heat

Kesä on nyt hellinyt meitä kaikkia täällä Suomessa aivan ihanan korkeilla lämpötiloilla. Samalla se tarkoittaa sitä, että minä olen kävellyt ympäriinsä kastelukannun ja vesiletkun kanssa aika tiheään tahtiin viime aikoina. Eilen ajelin urheana nurmikkoa ja olin jo ajanut puolet nurmikosta, kun tajusin, että olisihan siinä masiinassa ollut se boostikin, josta ruohonleikkuri olisi itse vetänyt itseään. Noh, tulipahan ainakin kuntoilua kerrakseen, +30 asteen helteessä.

Summer has cherished us all in Finland with such warm temperatures lately. At the same time it means that I've been walking around with my watering can and water hose a lot lately. Yesterday I mowed the lawn bravely and I was already half way through when I realized that the darn machine has that boost handle and would have pushed more easily. Well, I had a good excercise sweating through the lawn, when the temperature was around +30 degrees celsius.

Läpi viikonlopun on vilvoittelua kaipailtu ja tässä yksi tapa. Sprinkleri heilumaan ja uikat päälle. Olis kyllä äidinkin tehnyt mieli hypätä sprinkelisateeseen.

All through the weekend we've been figuring out ways to cool ourselves down and this is one way to do so. Put on your sprinklers and swimsuits on. Mommy would have also loved to run into the sprinkler rain.

Tässä liukumäessä vauhti ei ole huima, mutta lopussa odottaa dippaus pieneen (ja jääkylmään) vesialtaaseen. Oli kovassa käytössä eilen illalla. Ja lämmintä piisaa vielä tänäänkin. Saas nähdä, joko huomenna viilenee kovastikin. Ei kai siinä mitään, hyväähän se vaan tekee kasveille ja luonnolle, etenkin jos viileneminen on vain väliaikaista :-)

This slide is not the fastest one, but at the end you will have a nice little dip to the tiny pool of (ice cold) water. Was very much in use yesterday. Let's see, if the weather will cool down tomorrow. It doesn't really matter and it's actually so good for all the plants and the nature, especially if the cooling weather is only temporary :-)

Jalis - Soccer

Kaksin olemme taas kerran tyttären kanssa. Isä on valtameren takana työmatkalla ja minä täällä koetan rumbata arkea tyttären kanssa. Se on muuten koostunut viime aikoina pitkälti jalkapallosta... tämä meidän arki.

It's the two of us again, me and my daughter. Daddy is across the sea on business trip and I myself try and rally this everyday life of ours with our daughter. Which by the way has been all about soccer lately...




Meidän innokas maalivahtimme oli taas keskiviikon pelissä ihan elementissään. Tykkää olla tosi paljon maalissa ja tosi rohkeasti lähtee aina palloa vastaan. Neidille taisi tulla pelin aikana muutama aika iso ruhjekin polviin, vaan ei se tunnu juuri tahtia hidastavan. Siinä on äidillä muuten pelin aikaan aina huuto herkässä ja kannustaminen on kyllä aikas äänekästä tässä perheessä muutoinkin. Ja kannustushuudot kyllä irtoavat tasaisesti koko joukkueelle, ei ainoastaan meidän mukelolle ;-)

Our eager goalie was in her element on Wednesday's game night. She likes to be in the goal and is so bravely going towards the soccer ball. I think she got couple of very nasty looking scratches to her knees during the game, but it doesn't seem to really bother her. And mommy was yelling a lot and actually we are kinda loud crowd when we cheer our team. And we love to cheer the whole team, not only our kid ;-)
