Hampaasta uuteen tuoliin - From a tooth to a new chair

Viime päivät ovat olleet täynnä kaikenlaista pientä tapahtumaa. Viime viikon tiistaina ja torstaina olen pulannut vesi-aerobicissa ja perjantaina istunut tosi leppoisassa ja mielenkiintoisessa kirjailija-illassa tällä tunnelmallisella takapihalla. Lauantaina kävimme vielä kymmenen naisen voimin katsomassa tämän elokuvan ja leffassa ollessani tyttäreltäkin sitten vihdoin irtosi...

Last days have been full of different activities. Last week I went to water aerobics and also listened to a very relaxing and also interesting writer's evening in this beautiful backyard. On Saturday we went (ten ladies all together) to see this movie and while I was at the movies my daughter finally lost...

Ja tyttären huonekin uudistui miltei puolivahingossa kuluneena viikonloppuna. Se siitä seuraa, kun lähtee tyttären kanssa kirppareille. Neidin kanssa ihastuttiin kuvan taka-alalla näkyvään tuoliin ja saman sarjan verhoon ja matkaan lähtivät. Ja sitä kautta muuttui myös koko ilme tyttären huoneessa. Nyt on jo paljon isomman tytön oloinen huone!

And our daughter's room also got a new facelift during this past weekend. This is what happens when you go to garage sales with your daughter. We both fell in love with that hot pink chair and the curtains that came with it, so we just had to buy them. And then of course we changed the whole room while we were at it, which now looks much more like a big girl room than before.

Tuolille istahtivat neidin lemppariponit ja viereen asettui vanha Pottery Barn Kidsistä ostamani yöpöytä, jonka olen maalannut valkoiseksi. Hauskat nuo pienet helmikirjailut tuolin helmassa.

Those two My Little Ponies babies went to sit to this chair immediately and next to it is a Pottery Barn night stand I bought some years back and which I painted white afterwards. Can you see those little details at the hem of this chair. So cute!

Samalta kirpparikierrokselta löytyi kotiin myös tuo hauska Pink-koira. Lähes kaikki kuvan pikkuesineet ovat löytöjä kirppareilta.

From the same garage sale tour we found that cute Pink dog (yes, it is from VS). Most of these little things are finds from garage sales.

Ja sitten leikkimään. Meidän tyttären haaveammatti on tässä iässä kuvan mukaisesti opettaja. Oikeanpuoleisessa kuvassa on meneillään lukuhetki ja oppilaat istuvat niin hiirenhiljaa, että....

And then it's time to play. At this age our daughter wants to be a teacher and in the photo at right she is having a reading session. And all the students were so quiet and sat so still...

Koulukarnevaali ja synttärit osa 2 - School Carneval and birthday part 2

Viime viikon perjantaina tyttären koululla järjestettiin kivat koulukarnevaalit, joihin mekin pääsimme osallistumaan ekaa kertaa. Ohjelmassa oli mm. säkin liu'uttamista, pallolla pomputtelua ja monia muita leikkimielisiä kisoja. Karnevaaleissa oli myös kasvomaalausta sekä hiljainen huutokauppa, jossa jokaiselta luokalta oli oma lahjoituskorinsa, joita saattoi huutaa.

Last Friday our daughter had a Carneval at her school. This was the first time we ever participated on one and it was a lot of fun. They had all sorts of games there, including these two in the photos. There was also face painting and lots other funny games. The school also held a quiet auction, where you could bid on the items every class had donated.

Ja sunnuntaina vietimme sitten synttärikutsuja. Meillä synttärit pidetään aina kotona, vaikka moni perhe päätyy täällä pitämään kekkerit esim. pomppulinnapaikoissa tai vaikkapa vesipuistossa. Minusta ihan perinteiset ja pienimuotoiset synttärit ovat kuiteskin kivoimpia ja rahapussillekin sopivampia. Ja näin saamme myös tyttären kanssa yhdessä koristaa kodin juhlaan. Neiti valitsi tämän vuoden koristeiksi barbie-koristeet. Täällä tällaiset koristelumateriaalit ovat tosi edullisia, eikä koristuksiin mennyt juuri pariakymmentä taalaa enempää. Osaatteko muuten sanoa, onko Suomessa kuinka hyvin saatavilla erilaisia koristelumatskuja? Esim. juuri barbieta tai muita tyttöjen suosikkeja?

And on Sunday we had the birthday party. We always have parties at home, even though a lot of families end up having the parties outside their homes. For me the old, traditional way is still the best and most economical. And this way we can decorate our home together with our daughter. This year she wanted to have Barbie decor at her party. Here all this party material is very cheap, all this material cost around twenty dollars. What about in Finland nowadays? Are this sort of decoration materials easy to find? I mean all these characters like barbie etc.?

Tarjottavaa oli tällä kertaa suht niukasti, sillä kekkerit kestivät vain kaksi tuntia. Leivoin juustotäytteisiä minipizzoja ja tein tyttären toivomuksesta kyseisenlaisen "kuppikakkukakun". Sen lisäksi tarjolla oli juustosuikeroita, mansikoita, viinirypäleitä, nallekarkkeja, suolakeksejä ja Domino-keksin kaltaisia mini-oreoita. Ja juotavaksi appelsiinimehua. Melko yksinkertaista siis, mutta hyvin tuntui maistuvan.

This all we served at the party. We didn't have a huge variety, since the party lasted only for two hours. I baked some mini pizzas and made this "cupcake cake". We also had some cheetos, strawberries, grapes, gummy bears, salty mix and mini-Oreos at the party table. And for drinks we served orange juice. Simple, yet seemed to work well!

Ja lautasia koristi tietysti Barbie. Synttäreiltä vieraiden matkaan lähtevät yllätyspussukat roikkuivat keittiön ovessa ja niiden yläpuolella oli hauska aurinkolasipeli, johon lapset kiinnittivät silmät suljettuina tarra-aurinkolaseja. Voittaja oli se, jonka lasit olivat lähinnä Barbien silmiä. Voittaja sai palkinnoksi omat barbie-varvastossut ;-)

And plates were also decorated with Barbie theme. In the photo you can also see the goodie bags every guest was taking home from the party. Above it is our first game, in which the girls tried to hang sticker sunglasses and the one who got the classes closest to barbie's eyes was the winner, taking home Barbie flip flops ;-)

Tässä maistellaan jo kuppikakkuja ja toisessa kuvassa synttärisankari ja vieraat osallistuvat värityskisaan. Tuomareina toimi kaksi äitiä ja meidän isukki. Voittaja sai palkinnoksi Barbie-aiheisen värityskirjan.

Here our little one (or is she anymore?) is already tasting her cupcake and in the other photo the guests are participating in the coloring contest. Two moms and our daddy were judges. The winner got herself a Barbie coloring kit.

Juhlat menivät tosi hyvin ja meillä oli oikein mukava päivä. Nyt onkin sitten koittanut paluu arkeen ihan kunnolla, sillä päätin ottaa itseäni niskasta kiinni ja skarpata etäopinnoissani. Avoimen yliopiston kirjoitusopintoni ovat olleet vähän retuperällä, mutta nyt olen taas löytänyt kaivattua motivaatiota ja täällä olen istunut viime ajat nenä kiinni kirjoissa. Niinpä täällä blogimaailmassa voi olla hiukan hiljaista taas, mutta en minä täältä minnekään katoa. Tästä bloggailusta kun on tullut jo vähän sellainen tapa...

The party was a success and we had a lot of fun. Now it's time to consentrate on other things. As many of you may know I am a distant student in a finnish university and my writing studies have been on a pause for a long time. I decided that now it's time to start focusing on my studies, so it may get more quiet here in my blog, but I will still be here, I will not disappear complitely.

Kuusi - Six

Kuusi vuotta sitten sain hänet. Oman pienen pellavapääni, äidin pienen tytön tylleröisen. Pienestä taaperosta on kasvanut jo iso tyttö, joka käy innokkaasti esikoulua ja on meille mieheni kanssa elämämme suurin ilo. Kuuteen vuoteen on mahtunut paljon iloa, välillä pientä murhettakin mm. toisen isoisän kuoleman vuoksi, huolta tyttären terveydestä etenkin raskauden aikana, jolloin olin vaarassa menettää hänet ja myöhemmin taaperoiässä, kun tytär sairastui mysteerisesti, mutta toipui onneksi pelottavan sairaalareissun jälkeen täydellisesti.

Tyttärestämme on kasvanut sosiaalinen, avoin ja kaikkia rakastava lapsi, joka näkee kaikissa ihmisissä jotain hyvää. Tyttärellämme on kuitenkin melko herkkä ja haavoittuvainen sydän. Voi kun tuota pienen pientä sydäntä osaisi jollakin tapaa suojata tulevilta vuosilta, jotta se jaksaisi ottaa vastaan myös ne elämän mutkaisemmat tienhaarat ja polut.

Six years ago I got her. My own little blond haired girl. From a little toddler has developed an active girl, who is a very energetic kingergartener and the most precious joy of all for both me and my husband. During these six years we have experienced so many things with her, she gives us so much joy, but we have also experienced some sad times, when her other grandpa passed away and some consern when I was still pregnant with her and almost lost her, and also on her toddler years when she got ill mysteriously, but thankfully recovered after a very frightening hospital visit.

Our daughter has grown to be a very social, open and a person who loves everyone and sees good in everyone. She also has a sensitive and delicate heart. So that is something she may need to learn to protect in the future, so she doesn't get hurt too much.

Eilen aamuna tyttärellä oli kuitenkin varsin jännät paikat. Hyvä kun malttoi edellisiltana edes käydä nukkumaan. Eilen tytär täytti tosiaan jo huimat ja hirmu tärkeät 6 vuotta! Aamuvarhain, jo ennen seitsemää tämä pyjamapöksy livahti olohuoneeseen availemaan paketteja, niin isän ja äidin ostamia kuin Suomesta tulleita. Mummin laittama kuva papasta ja pikkuneidistä päikkäreillä kainalokkain sai aikaan riemukkaat naurut.

Yesterday morning she had a very exiting morning. Yes, our daughter had her 6th birthday! Early in the morning, way before seven this pajama pant went to the family room to open up her presents, the ones mommy and daddy had got for her and the ones that had been sent for her from Finland. Grandma had put a photo of her grandpa (having a nap with her granddaughter) with the presents and that caused her to laugh hilariously.

Nämä tyypit ovat nyt SE juttu! Neiti sai lahjaksi nämä kaksi otusta, nimetkin niillä on. Tai oli jo ostettassa, valmiina. Keltainen kaveri on Nugget ja vaaleanpunainen on Jilly. Joko Suomesta saa Zhu Zhu petsejä? Täällä niitä on joka muksulla ja ovat aina loppuunmyytyjä Walmartissa ja muissa supermarketeissa. Ja joo, ovathan nämä aika vinkeitä, vaikken oikein ensin meinannut lämmetä näille hassuja ääniä päästeleville ja hamsterin tapaan ees taas lattiaa rullaaville otuksille. Voitteko kuvitella, että nämä tyypit osaavat jopa juosta siinä sellaisessa hamsteripyörässä? Voe ei...

These quys are THE thing right now! Our daughter got these two as her b-day present. The yellow one is called Nugget and the pink one is called Jilly. Are these available in Europe already? Here in U.S. these are so popular that they are always sold out in Walmart and other big grocery stores. I was first a bit hesitant about these guys, which make funny noises and roll around your house. Can you believe that these also go to the hamster wheel to run? Oh my...

Ostimme neidin pyynnöstä synttärilahjaksi myös tällaisen hauskan värityssetin, joka taisi olla nimeltään color explotions tai sinne suuntaan. Pakkauksessa on setti tusseja, pinkkejä ja vihreitä papereita ja wow! Kun noilla kynillä piirtää paperille, värit tulevat esiin todella kauniina ja elävinä!

We also bought these coloring sets for our daughter. I think it was called color explosions or something like that. In this set there were some markers, pink and green paper sheets and wow! When you started coloring the sheets the pictures came out vibrant and almost alive!

Ja arvatkaas, kuka muukin innostui näistä väritysseteistä niin paljon, että huomasi eilen värittelevänsä näitä kuvia ihan samalla innolla kuin meidän 6-veemmekin. Minähän se olin.

And guess who else got so excited about these coloring sheets that ended up coloring them with the same energy as my 6 year old. That would be me.

Illalla oli vielä kakun paikka, vaikka itse synttärijuhlat pidetäänkin virallisesti sunnuntaina. Tytär tuli suoraan uimakoulusta kakun äärelle, tukkakin taisi olla vielä märkänä.

Later in the evening we also had some cake, even though the party will be hold on Sunday. Our daughter came to the cake table straight from her swimming school, her hair was still wet and all.

6-vuotta on iso juttu pienen tytön tyllerön elämässä! Ja äiti huokaa...

6 years is a big thing in a life of a little girl! And mommy sighs...

Äitienpäivältä - From Mother's Day

Minulla oli hyvin rento ja rauhallinen äitienpäivä. Sain aamulla kortteja ja makiaa sänkyyn ja sen jälkeen minua odotti maittava brunch, jonka tytär teki isänsä kanssa äipälle. Minä päätin tehdä meille vielä lisäksi hiukan jotain herkkua ja päädyin tähän kyhelmään. Vohvelia, vaniljajätskiä ja suklaakastiketta. Jännä, miten nuo leikkaamani mansikat muotoutuivat kivasti sydämen muotoon.

I had a very relaxing an quiet Mother's Day. I got cards and treats in the morning and after that my husband and my daughter made me a delicious brunch. I myself decided to do something sweet for them and made these waffle, vanilla icecream and chocolate sauce treats. It was funny how those strawberries I cut had a shape of heart like they were meant to look like that on Mother's Day.

Ja tulppaanit, ne on minun kestosuosikkeja. Niitäkin sain ilokseni äitienpäivänä. Eipä sitä voi kai enempää toivoakaan!

Here is a card made by my daughter and then a one they picked together with daddy. And under the cards you can see some abstract art my daughter made with paints and a piece of wood. And of course some tulips, which are my favorites. What else can one hope for!

Koruja ja tuoksuja - Jewelry and fragnances

Miten minä en pääse näissä postauksissani meidän kylppäristä poies lainkaan? No mutta, tässä vielä kuvia oman käsienpesualtaani reunukselta, jossa säilytän mieluisimpia tuoksujani sekä muutamia koruja.

How come I seem to be stuck on our bathroom with my postings? Well, here are couple of photos from a little nook next to my sink, where I keep all my favorite parfumes and some jewelry.

Minä en ole mikään kovin ahkera korujen käyttäjä, mutta joskus on kiva laittaa kaulaan kaunis kaulakoru tai käsiin muutamia rannekoruja. Korvakoruja minä en tällä hetkellä käytä lainkaan.

I am not using my jewelry a lot. Sometimes I may put on a necklace or some bracelets, but I don't use any earrings at the moment.

Joissain blogeissa naiset ovat esitelleet lempituoksujaan. Minun lempituoksuni taitaa olla tämä. Escadan Into the Blue. Raikas ja keveä tuoksu, joka menee kesät talvet.

I have noticed that in some blogs women have described their fave parfumes. My favorite is Escada Into the Blue. It's fresh and it's light, which you can use year round.

Myös mieto kielon tuoksu viehättää. Kielon tuoksua löytyy vartalovoiteesta ja vartalotalkista.

And for some reason I really like all the Lily of the Valley products. Here is a body lotion and talcum powder.

Kylppäriä vielä - Bathroom revisited

Vielä pari kuvaa kylppäristä. Kylppärin nurkassa on tosiaan poreamme, mutta itse en ole siellä makoillut kuin kerran tai kaksi. On ainoastaan pikkuneidin käytössä ja yleensä kylpyhetkellä leluja täynnä. Eikä neiti koskaan halua laittaa poreita päälle, hälle riittää ihan tavallinen vaahtokylpy. Moni ehkä muistaa tuon kirpparilta löytämäni patsaan, josta pidän tosi paljon.

Still couple of more images from our master bathroom. In the corner we have this jacuzzi which I have used myself maybe once or twice. Our daughter is the constant user of it, even though she doesn't even want us to put it on. Many of you may remember that statue which I bought from garage sale. It's my absolute favorite.



Ja valkoisissa koreissa kaikki tarpeellinen. Vanha 70-luvun Coca Cola-tarjotin löytyi estate salesta.

And all the necessary everyday items in those white baskets. That old Coca Cola tray from the early 70s is a find from an estate sale.


Isot lasipurnukat olen ostanut läheisestä estate salesta. Niistä toisessa on kuivattuja ruusuja ja toisessa pumpuleita.

These big glass vases I have bought from a local estate sale. In the other I have dried roses and in the other cotton balls.

Kaadoin mietoa ruusutuoksua tähän tuoksuastiaan ja kovin on keveää. Itse en mitään hirveän voimakkaita tuoksuja siedä, tai alkaa päätä kolottamaan.

I put some of that rose fragnance in this fragnance holder and it is very mild. I cannot personally have too strong fragnances in our house or I get a headache.

Kylppäristä - From the Bathroom

Tänään oli neidin kylpypäivä ja otinpa siinä samalla pari kuvaa kylppärimme yksityiskohdista. Ammeen reunalla on muutamia koristeita ja pari kukkaakin on sinne ilmestynyt. Itämaisissa patsaissa on jotain kiehtovaa ja niitä löytyy meiltä muutamia erilaisia.

During our little ones bathtime I took some snapshots of our bathroom details. We have some decor items at the edge of the jacuzzi and they are all light in color. I always find something fascinating about all the asian style statues and we have some of those in our home.

Ostin tämän huonetuoksua sisältävän pullon taalalla ja sitä löytyy nyt muutamista tuoksupisteistä kodistamme. Niistä kaksi on pienessä eteishallissa ja yksi juurikin kylppärissä. Hyvin vienoa ruusun tuoksua voi siis aistia kodistamme.

I bought this room fragnance for a dollar and it can be found from couple of places in our home. Two of those are in our little hallway and one is actually in this bathroom. You can smell this very delicate rose scent walking through these spaces.
