Jätskitötterö - Ice Cream Cone

...Voi olla myös cupcake. Löysin joku aika sitten jäätelötötterön muotoisen cupcakevuoan (josta muodostuu 6 kpl kuvan kaltaisia cupcakeja) ja sitä piti heti kokeilla. Tein suklaisen cupcaken ohjeella nämä tötteröt, joista kaiversin hiukan sisustaa pois (sisällehän voisi laittaa vaikka mansikkahilloa tai suklaakastiketta) ja päälle vaniljajäätelöä sekä vaaleanpunaisia nonparelleja. Tyttären kaveri tuli meille iltapäivällä kylään ja nämä jätskiherkut katosivat nopeasti tyttösten suihin.

...Can also be a cupcake. I found this ice cream cone shaped cupcake pan (which makes 6 pieces of this kind of cones) and I had to try it straight away. I made chocolate cones, removed some of the dough after baking (you could put some strawberry jam or chocolate sauce inside the cone) added some vanilla ice cream on top with pink sprinkles. Our daughter's friend came to play date later that day and they both really enjoyed their ice cream treats.

Ja niinpä sitä löytyy pieninä annoksina kotoamme. Uusin hankintani on tuo taustalla näkyvä Audrey Hepburn taulu, jonka löysin läheisestä poistomyymälästä. Miespuolinen myyjäsetä kyseli, että mihin aion taulun laittaa. Vastasin, että olohuoneeseen, vaikkei mieheni ehkä tule olemaan asiasta täysin samaa mieltä, taulun ollessa niin kovin naisellinen. Siihen myyjäsetä vastasi vinosti hymyillen, että ehkä mieheni tottuu ajatukseen... ajan kanssa. Toivon mukaan, sillä Audrey on tullut jäädäkseen... ;-)

And so we have a little bit of pink here and there in our home. My latest purchase is that Audrey Hepburn painting, that I found from a local outlet store. This cashier guy asked me, where I am planning to put this painting and I told that it goes to our family room, even though my husband might not be so crazy about this pink painting. This guy replied me smiling that maybe he will get used to it... someday. Well I really hope so, since Audrey is here to stay... ;-)

Pienellä sivupöydällä on Pottery Barn Kidsin alepöydästä vuosia sitten löytämäni lamppu ja hauska maski, jonka olen ostanut joskus garage salesta. Mutta itseni tuntien tuolta sivupöydältä saattaa jo ensi viikolla löytyä ihan jotain muuta koristusta... ;-)

On this little side table I have a table lamp that I have bought from Pottery Barn Kids sale long time ago. I also ended up putting this funny mask on that table. I found it from a local garage sale sometime ago. But knowing myself I bet that in a couple of weeks I might have something totally new decoration on that table top.. ;-)

P.S. Huomasitko muuten uudet sohvat? Minä olen täällä ihan onnesta soikeana tästä hankinnasta. Menimme mieheni kanssa tässä eräänä iltana erääseen huonekalujen poistomyymälään (hankimme pääosin kaiken joko käytettyinä, alennuksista tai poistomyymälöistä. En näe järkeä ostaa juurikaan mitään täydellä hinnalla, kun valinnanvaraa on edullisemmissakin vaihtoehdoissa) katsomaan kirjahyllyä, mutta päädyimmekin hankkimaan nämä sohvat ja yhden toisenkin huonekalun, jonka paljastan piakkoin...

P.S. Did you notice our new sofa and loveseat? I am in seventh heaven here about this set. We went to this furniture outlet the other day (we prefer to buy everything used, with reduced prices or from outlet stores. I just don't see any reasons to buy stuff full priced, since there is so many options even to get things cheaper) to check some book cases and suprisingly ended up getting these and one more item, which I will reveal soon...

Valkoista maalia - White Paint

Kevät aiheuttaa minussa hirmuista uudistusvimmaa ja niinpä kiirusta on piisannut viime päivinä, sillä olen tässä taikonut itselleni lisää projektia. Ostin viikonloppuna käytettynä alla olevan keittiön pöytäryhmän. Pienen pyöreän pöydän ja neljä tuolia. Vanhan, tummasävyisen, kuluneen ja naarmuisen tilalle.

Spring makes me want to change everything in our household and I have admit that I have been a bit busy lately, since I have magically made some new projects happen for myself. I bought this used table set during the weekend. Small round table and four chairs. To replace the old, dark stained, worn out and scratched one.

Ongelmaksi meinasi muodostua pöydän kansilevy, joka oli täynnä naarmuja ja maalipinta oli lohkeillut pahasti. Siinä jo mietin nuoren amerikkalaistytön somassa keittiössä seistessäni ja ostopäätöstä tehdessäni, että pirhana, kannattaakohan tämä?

The problem was that the table top was full of scratches and the paint had chipped pretty bad. There I was standing in this young girl's pretty kitchen thinking, should I buy this or not?

Mutta matkaan lähti pöytäryhmä ja sain lohkeilleen maalipinnan vuoksi hintaakin alas ihan huimasti. Ja mikä on todennäköisyys, että löysin täkäläisen remppakaupan alekorista juuri sopivan väristä maalia gallonan purkin hintaan 5 taalaa? Kyllä oli riemu suuri, kun sain jo samana iltana maalattua pöytälevyn uuteen uskoon ja nyt tämä ryhmä on jo käytössä.

But I decided to buy it and I was actually able to get the price down due to the scrathes and chipped paint. And what are the odds that I found a gallon size paint can for $5 and it was the exact color to go to the table top? I was so happy to be able to paint the table top during that same day and now we are already using this set.

Niin ja yes, tänään sain myytyä vanhan pöytäsetin eräälle paikalliselle, herttaisen oloiselle pariskunnalle ;-) Tällainen kierrätys on minusta hauskaa!

And oh yes, I sold our old table set today for this lovely, local couple ;-) I like this kind of recycling!

Pöytäsetissä on hiukan patinoitu pinta tuoleissa ja pöydän jaloissa. Minä kyllä ihastuin tähän ihan hirmusti!

The table set has a little bit of patina in the chairs and the table pedestal. I really fell in love this set!

Kyyhkyläiset - Love Birds

Olen taas innostunut hiukan maalailemaan ja uudistamaan huonekaluja ja kotimme koriste-esineitä.

I have started to paint and renovate our furniture and decorative items.


Viime viikolla päätin uudistaa tämän takan edustaa koristavan kehikon ilmettä. Ostin tämän ihanuuden viime syksynä garage salesta, mutta se on lojunut autotallissa aina tähän hetkeen saakka.

Last week I ended up renovating this screen in front of our fire place, which I found from a local garage sale last fall. It has been in our garage for a long time, but now it was time to put it in it's own place.

Ja arvatenkin maalasin sen valkoiseksi. Ei kyllä ollut tarkoitus näin tehdä, mutta eikö vain toimikin paremmin tummaa takan ritilää vasten valkoisena. Näin nuo kaksi koristeellista kyyhkyläistäkin erottuu paremmin ;-)

And suprisingly so, I painted it white. I wasn't actually planning to do so, but doesn't it make it more visible with white paint? This way those the two love birds are also more visible... ;-)

Lunta ja laskiaispullia - Snow and some Finnish Pulla

Viime viikko oli aivan uskomattoman ihana! Lunta tulla tuprutteli montakymmentä senttiä ja tytär sai kerrankin tehdä lumiukkoja ja -linnoja minkä malttoi.

Last week was just wonderful! There was so much snow and our daughter was thrilled to be able to make big snowmen and snow forts.


Teimme yhdessä myös omasta lapsuudestani tutun lumilyhdyn etupihaaa koristamaan ja sisälle sujautimme pienen kynttilän. Ette voi arvata, miten oli ihanaa tehdä näin yksinkertaisia lumisia asioita lapsen kanssa paikassa, jossa emme juuri koskaan pääse nauttimaan jokaiselle suomalaiselle itsestään selvyyksiltä tuntuvista lumileikeistä tai ylipäätään lumesta.

We also made this little snow lantern which we used to do in my childhood. Inside these lanterns you put a little candle. You cannot believe how wonderful it was to do all these simple things in a place you are not normally able to play with snow or even have snow like in our childhood in Finland.

Ja sunnuntaina leivoimme laskiaispullia. Ja kylläpä ne taas maistuivat makoisilta! Toivottavasti sinulla oli mukava laskiaistiistai! Täällä lumesta ei ole enää tietoakaan :-(

And on Sunday we made some "finnish pulla". And boy they tasted good! I hope you had a nice Tuesday (and maybe some snow too)! We don't have any snow left here in Texas :-(

Lunta ja kuumaa kaakaota - Snow and Hot Chocolate

Viikkomme on ollut kiireinen, mutta kiire lakkasi tänään kuin luonnostaan. Ei koulua, ei tälle päivälle suunniteltuja koulun Valentine's Day juhlia...

Our week has been very busy, but today it came to an end by nature. No school, no Valentine's Day party at the school...


Tänään oli koulusta vapaapäivä, sillä heräsimme aamulla sankkaan lumisateeseen. Ja jos lunta tupruttaa kovasti, ei koulua ole. Tämä on ainakin täällä Teksasissa ihan yleinen tapa.

Today our daughter didn't have school, since we woke up to a dense snow fall. And if there is heavy snow fall, it means no school. This is the way it goes at least here in Texas.

Joten olemme ulkoilleet ja nauttineet kuumaa kaakaota.

So we have been outside and enjoyed hot chocolate.

Kermavaahdolla ja sydämen muotoisilla nonparelleilla, tulevan ystävänpäivän kunniaksi. Toivottelen teille rentouttavaa viikon jatkoa täältä lumisesta Teksasista!

Oi Mozart!

Tänään olin kaupungilla kahden korealaisen ystävättäreni kanssa. Ja mikä kumma siinäkin on, mutta meidän treffailut liittyvät aina jollain tapaa syömiseen.

Ja kyllä me taas naurettiin, kun sanoin, et tytöt hei, mä olen aina kuvitellut, että korealaiset syövät kevyesti, mutta joka kerta heidän kanssaan lounastreffeiltä palattuani tuntuu kuin olisin syönyt hevosen, kirjaimellisesti! Siis oikeasti, tänään tilasimme kolme erilaista annosta ja yleensä jaamme ne keskenämme. Yksi meistä tilasi vietnamilaista keittoa, toinen thaimaalaista Pad Thaita ja minä sushia ja siis, hirveä määrä syömistä! Uh huh!

I met with two of my korean friends today. And I don't know what it is, but everytime we meet, at the end it has something to do with food ;-)

And boy we laughed, when I told them that I have always thought that korean people eat lightly, but everytime I meet them I am so full I feel I have eaten a horse, literally! Really, I mean it. We usually always order separate dishes, but then share them all together. Today one of us ordered vietnamese noodle soup, other one ordered Pah Thai and I ordered sushi and boy we ate a lot!

Niin ja lounaan jälkeen suuntasimme vielä viereiseen korealaiseen leipomoon ja sain jälkkäriksi sitten tätä! Voi herranen aika sentään!

And yes, after the lunch we went to this nice Korean bakery and I had this for dessert. Oh my, oh my!

Ai mitä mun laihikselle kuuluu? No ei todellakaan kovin hyvää! Mutta tämä passionhedelmä-leivos sen sijaan, se oli taivaallisen hyvää!

Oh, you are wondering how my diet is doing? Is not doing good at all! But this passion fruit pastry, it was heavenly delicious!

Tästä on hyvä aloittaa viikonloppu, sillä ostin vielä mukaani kaikenlaista herkkua leipomosta.

This is the way to start the weekend, since I of course bought some pastries to bring home.

HRC & NHL ???

Viikonloppumme oli varsin tavanomainen, mutta sunnuntaille mieheni oli varannut meille liput NHL-pelistä. Ajattelimme käydä samalla suuntaa ollessamme myös vastikään avatussa, uudessa Hard Rock Cafessa.

Our weekend was just usual, but for Sunday my husband had bought us NHL-tickets. We also thought to go see the new Hard Rock Cafe restaurant that had opened while back and happened to be in the same neighborhood.

Hienolta näytti uusi HRC, mutta mieheni ei pitänyt uudesta ilmeestä. Ei kuulema ollut enää tarpeeksi rock-n-roll henkinen. Minä sen sijaan pidin modernimmasta ilmeestä tosi paljon.

The new HRC looked nice, but my husband complained that this place doesn't have so called rock-n-roll atmosphere. I myself really enjoyed the more modern touch.

Menu oli varsin burger-painotteinen, joten jaoimme miehen kanssa nachos-alkupalan. Ja pöydälle ilmestyi heti minikatalogi.

The menu was filled with burgers, so we shared nachos starter with my husband. And of course the was also this mini catalogue at the table.

Jääkiekkopeliä odottavalle jälkikasvulle tarjoiltiin tällainen jälkiruoka. Järkyttävä annos, mutta onneksi meitä oli kolme sitä jakamassa.

And our ice-hockey fan was served with this giant sized dessert. It really was huge, but there was three of us to share it, so it wasn't too much.

Ja sitten olimmekin jo kohta itse pelissä. Tunnustan heti, etten ole koskaan ollut kovin innokas penkkiurheilija, enkä ole juuri mitään lajeja innostunut seuraamaan, mutta jääkiekko on kyllä poikkeus! Jääkiekkopeleistä sentään tajuaakin jotain (blondi kun olen), sen sijaan amerikkalainen jalkapallo ja jopa pesis on mulle joskus täyttä hepreaa.

And soon we were at the game. I have to admit that I am not a very big sports fan and don't really watch any sports, except ice-hockey. Ice-hockey games are easy to follow and you can understand the idea (being a blonde that I am), whereas I don't know anything about american football or even baseball.


Joukkueen maskotti? tervehti meitä American Airlines-keskuksen pihalla ja itse halli oli suht täynnä.

The team mascot? treated us outside the AA-center and the Center was quite full of people.


Väliajalla katsojat osallistuivat erilaisiin kisoihin, joista tämä oli aika vinkeä. Isä ja pojat kilpaavat toisiaan vastaan. Isä voitti ;-)

Between the rounds the viewers took part in different kind of games, and this was kinda funny. Father and sons competing against each other. Dad won ;-)


Ja tässä meidän oma lätkäfani. Joka jaksoi hienosti ekan erän, mutta toisen ja kolmannen erän kohdalla alkoi jo kuulumaan jotain tämänsuuntaista: Daddy, let's go home! I'm sooooo tired!

And here is our own ice-hockey fan. Who was very cheery during the first round, but during the second and especially the third one got a little tired and we were hearing a lot of this: Daddy, let's go home! I'm soooo tired!
